Teachers’ Club and University Theatre

The intervention stems from Sapienza’s need to create student accommodation in the building located in Via Palestro n.63, providing for the location of service and support activities for the student residence, or of recreational, educational and cultural services in the headquarters of the ex Dopolavoro, property of Sapienza since 2008, inside the University City.
The project involves the renovation and re-functionalization of the north-west wing of the building with restoration and conservative rehabilitation interventions relating to the three levels and the facades, and the regulatory adaptation also with regard to accessibility by people with mobility difficulties. .
The Sapienza program is therefore aimed at reusing the wing of the building as a guesthouse and student residence, while maintaining the operation of a cafeteria on the ground floor and the restoration of the party hall on the first level with the consequent uncovering of the attic that has canceled it. the double height dimension, the result of a previous intervention which had also obliterated the radial system of the skylights along the perimeter line of its roof.
The importance of these simple operations also consists in the fact of being able, on the occasion, to activate a renewed accessibility system and thus rearrange the accesses and make the user paths clearer, rethinking the relationships between exterior and interior, the loggias, the gardens, the appurtenant areas that constitute a precious sector of intermediate space between the Architectures and the Campus.
